To feel at home in my clothing was the goal. I had always found myself on the move, embracing life's adventures, navigating uncertain paths, and always accompanied by my trusty bags and belongings. That is how this all began, living the life of what I called the modern nomad.
BagLady Basics was born to mirror my lifestyle from its very inception. I would sing Erykah Badu’s song Bag Lady to myself for fun as I lugged my luggage around. I was obsessed with Mary Kate and Ashley’s 'Bag Lady' style (that’s what it was called back then). I wanted to create my version of that style, one that fitted seamlessly within my lifestyle. My vision was to create carefully constructed garments that were comfortable, versatile, and effortlessly chic- long airy cotton shirt dresses that didn’t drag on the floor, ones with pockets, easy to wash and dry.
Each design was a garment I wanted in my closet, and I hoped women alike would too. The woman on the go, the woman who lived a carefree life and had serious style, the boss lady, the lady working on becoming that boss lady-women who wanted to feel confident and capable through the way they dressed, no matter where the day took them.
BagLady Basics was birthed at the same time I had begun to explore the world as a solo traveler, and exploring the world organically inspired me to embark on a deeper journey of self-discovery. Over the years, BagLady Basics has been an extension of my identity, and my journey of personal growth continues daily.
As I continue to evolve, I’ve come to realize that it is time for a change. The clothing will remain consistent, and I will continue to create garments that stay true to its aesthetic, quality, and functionality. However, it is time to bid farewell to the name “BagLady Basics.”
I've begun to embrace a softer, slower, more settled life, both in my mind and location. And as I embark on this new chapter of being, I want my business, which is deeply intertwined with my life, to reflect this change. I am immensely grateful for this journey thus far and for the support of so many of you who have in some way, or another joined me on this ride. But at this moment, having a clothing brand named BagLady Basics feels like releasing a part of my life into the Universe that I no longer wish to manifest.
It is time to let go of this ‘lady nomad life.’
